The Dixie Electric Cooperative is closing for good

Dixie, a California electric cooperative, is closing its doors for good.

The California-based cooperative, which has operated in the Bay Area since 1997, said in a statement that it is “focusing its energies on the long-term growth of its businesses and will not be able to sustain operations for another year.”

The company announced last year that it was laying off more than 6,000 employees, including about 3,000 workers at its distribution centers.
